Outlook Express Problem - can anyone help?

My friend has just signed up with Freeserve, and although using the internet
presents no problems, he cannot send or receive e-mails using OE. Express
starts ok but after a little while the following error comes up:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.freeserve.com'.
Server:'smpt.freeserve.com. Protocol:SMPT, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number 0x800CCC0E."

We have been through the setup as detailed by Freeserve and others and as
far as we can see we have entering the correct info, but no luck. His
machine is running Windows 2000 and OE 5.5.

Can anyone suggest likely causes and possible (and easily understandable)
solutions?

Cheers, Alan

Should not
'SMPT' and 'smpt'
be
'SMTP' and 'smtp'

In 'Server', it is NOT "smpt", is is "smtp" -- change it.
Tools / Accounts / Mail / Properties / Servers ... Outgoing Mail.

In addition to the SMTP/SMPT transposition, the account should be your user
account, not pop.freeserve.com.
