I've been getting an error message on boot-up (Win ME). It's been going
on for a while now. I was downloading freeware accounting programs to try them, then using their uninstall feature. Since I dl'd several in one day, trying each and uninstalling, I have no idea which program was using it. Following is the error message: Error Starting Program A required .dll file, vcl50.bpl, was not found. That's all there is to it. I click OK and continue...no problems after that. I've googled and all I can find are pages that have to do with programming (a shell for windows possibly). I've found a site to download the file from, I'm just not sure where to put it. I appreciate any help. Thanks. bb3 |

The application is built with Delphi 5 runtime library - VCL50.BPL You can try copy the unzipped file to your Windows system folder, C:\Windows\System, if this doesn't fix the problem, reinstall ME? That file is not part of ME, so a reinstall won't do anything. It should be possible to put the VCL file in any directory PATH is set to or even simply the application folder. Me why? |

Even simpler to clean out the orphaned link that is pointing to the (now non-existant) file. The OP has been installing and uninstalling software. -- Basic computer maintenance http://uk.geocities.com/personel44/maintenance.html °Mike° |

Clean out your system, particularly the registry.

Oh yeah, and where were you hiding when others are giving suggestions like "Get rid of ME" or "Upgrade to XP"? I suggest you keep posting your "Search English page, Results 1 - 10 of about 80,500,000. Search took 0.29 seconds..." You sound really smart when you talk like that. > It should be possible to put the VCL file in any directory PATH is set > to or even simply the application folder. Why telling me? Why not enlighten bb3 what application folder are you referring to, genius. The bit you snipped. The OP has been installing >and uninstalling software. If the file not found msg went away, the OP didn't say yet. Then the next and usual suggestion(s) would be To reinstall the app and uninstall correctly Check with the help/support/author of the software. Me why? |

If the application's uninstaller is not performing as it should, what's the point? >Check with the help/support/author of the software.
