"Microsoft" spam

I've got spam going straight into a folder
provided by my ISP. I can check it in case of mistaken real messages.

For the last couple of days, there hasn't been any of this "microsoft" spam
in it. I used to get a hundred or so each day.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I've never had any. What are you complaining about?

You need to address this problem. If you run a virus check on the
attachment, you'll see it's infected.
Microsoft won't email you updates..

Thanks to all. I used to get dozens of messages pretending to be from
Microsoft, containing attachments which were viruses, so I knew not to open
them. Usually something about a patch, or undeliverable mail. It's been
going on for months. The virus or worm is SWEN or GIBE. I just deleted them.

They have suddenly stopped coming, so I wondered if something has finally
been done, I hear America has passed a law against spam.

All the Viagra stuff is still arriving, but my ISP removes it to a spam
folder. If it gets into my Inbox I forward it to my ISP as "spamreport."

(Now if I had a slot somewhere on the computer for free samples.........)

What did you use to find the SWEN or GIBE virus on your computer?

How did you then delete them?

I still get lots of these messages and they do have viruses in them.

Install Magic Mail Monitor (free).
http://mmm3.sourceforge.net/
http://www.geeba.org/magic/

Copy/paste the following into notepad and save it as swen.txt
in the Magic Mail Monitor folder...

***** <--- Begin text file - OMIT THIS LINE
<iframe src="cid
<iframe src=3Dcid
<iframe src=3D"cid
TITLE=3D"Microsoft Home Site" target=3D"_top">Microsoft</A>
this is the latest version of security update
***** <--- End text file - OMIT THIS LINE

In File / Filters, create a new filter:

Name: Swen
Mailbox: *
<Header> Includes '$Swen.txt'

Actions:
Check 'Delete from server'.

Also known as the "I CAN SPAM" law. Utterly useless. It goes into effect
January 1, which is Saturday; Monday the third will be snooze/recovery day.
Expect a deluge of crap on Tuesday the 4th.
