You need to install Microsoft Word or Microsoft Outlook from the Microsoft Office suite.

It uses the MS Office/Word spellcheck. If you don't have Office
installed, it won't work.

Basically the Spell check requires a third party program Office, Word e.t.c.
or you could download a spellchecker that works with OE
http://www.geocities.com/vampirefo/

Note this uses an "American" dictionary but an e-mail to vampire will give
you the code to unlock the "British" dictionary.

Have you actually done this? I've been using the program for quite a
while; and been on the look-out for the oft-mentioned, but so far,
unseen UK dictionary. My email to the site went unanswered.

Yup was using the "British" dictionary for ages had to reformat re D/Led
the spellchecker but can no longer even see a link for e-mail to vampire
sure I have a hard copy of s/he/its initial reply somewhere .Will post any
details if I ever find it.
Going by memory the "British" dictionary is already on your machine you
"just" have to enable it (with a code).
