I am running XP Home on an Athlon 1700+ CPU with 768 KB of DDRAM and need to
turn off shadowing or caching in my BIOS. How do I do that? I am now getting a regular system shutdown with a blue screen dumping memory to the hard drive and then system restarts. There is a recommendation on the blue screen that I get into BIOS and turn off shadowing and or caching and occasionally it will refer to the Nvidia driver as being the problem. I have the 52.16 Nvidia driver and am running the 7.0 version of BIOS Louis AA |

Read your motherboard manual on how to enter the BIOS.
Once in the BIOS, you will find the entries for: XXXX is cachable. (Enable/Disable). Might depend on if the ROM BIOS (video in this case) is truly ROM in
the full sense. If the "ROM" space on a card includes some addresses that can be written to, then shadowing (and write protecting after shadowing) might interfere in certain circumstances. Just a thought. Shadowing of ROM's in the BIOS was necessary in "the old days", but with current MB's and add in cards, it actually causes problems and can slow the system down if it's enabled. dr_hardware |
