BlankHi All: I am running Windows XP Home on a Toshiba Laptop. There is a
corrupted file in the System32 folder. The path to that file is
C:\windows\system32\config\. The file is called system. I am unable to
bootup the computer, not even in safe mode. I know windows XP has a repair
function, but since the OS is on the Toshiba recovery CD's, I can not access
this feature. According to Toshiba, my only option is to re-format and
install the OS from scratch. Apparently there is no repair feature on the
Toshiba CD's. Is there anything else I can do other than re-formatting the
hard drive. I don't understand why Toshiba does this. My son has a Compac,
and he is able to repair the OS by using Compac's recovery CD's

Thanks in advance for the help

Tony

2. Download the XP boot disks from here
http://bootdisk.com/

Or, if you know someone with a copy of XP Home, you could borrow their
CD and boot to it.

Then follow the steps as outlined here to restore the registry.

Good Luck!

You can run the system file checker from the start/run and typing
cmd /scannow and OK it.
