Search Function Doesn't Work

Sometimes when I click on start -> search, I am clearly asked what I want to
search for. But other times, like now, clicking on start -> search results
in the instructions "To start your search, follow the instructions in the
left pane". In the "left pane" are options with "Other Places" at the top
and 'Desktop', 'My Computer', 'My Documents', 'Shared Documents', 'My
Network Places' below it. There is another sub-pane with "Details" at the
top and 'Search Results' and 'System Folder' below that.

So I can't use this at all. What's going on? How can I get a consistent
search page?

Mike

My computer would be a good choice.

I attempted to try it. But now the only thing coming up is the picture with
the dog in it. What's going on?

Possible Workaround -
From Windows Explorer, right click the drive you wish to search and
choose "Search".
Does that do any better?
