Any comments on the Samsung Digimax 360 or 420??

Its a camera that I'm looking to get shortly unless something better comes
in mind that is within my price range.

It'll be just for general use and nothing fancy.

Personal choice - I prefer Sony, for exactly the reasons you state. general
use, not fancy and easy to use, learn and integrate with my Soby laptop ..
