It is my belief that stand-alones are generally better than
Swiss Army Knife applications. An exaggeration that nevertheless
represents my point: would you really want to do try to rebuild
your car's engine with an "all-in-one" tool?

Linux.
But back in the Win world:
Xnews
http://xnews.newsguy.com
PegasusMail
http://pmail.com
And *definitely* pick up news:news.software.readers ! A generally
good bunch, and a lot of expertise on various news clients. Post
your quest there, for that matter -- it'll introduce you to the group,
and the group to you via the responses. And you will Learn Stuff.

Yes.

Above.
A question for you: are you sure "me numbers" higher than 9 work at
privacy.net? (Granted, if they don't, they still keep some spam off
your back (except for all of the harvesting that's been done on real
addresses you may have exposed in the past).)

Back in Windows, I used the Outlook calendar, but that's all. I
have an extreme dislike for OE, but I don't feel like a rant, just
now.
See you in news.software.readers.
