It is not about email and newsreader programs that support HTML.
It is about bandwidth, and the time it takes to download emails and
newgroup postings over a dial-up connection, especially for those who
pay for both telephone usage and ISP access by the minute.
Basically HTML makes postings and emails up to 20 times larger, which
means 20 times longer to download, which means 20 times more expensive
to download. And for *zero* improvement in the content.
