a friend using OEv5.5 (on winME) developed the problem.
he can use the attach function, but the insert function results in 'error
195' message.
on microsoft, the help page for this error doesn't work; the tabs/etc it
says to modify is/are not present on OE's options window.
i found a link which said if certain options in IE were modified, it may
clear the problem (Tools/Options; Security tab, change security to Medium,
and highlight in blue Internet) but that didn't work either.

My friend awhile back had upgraded IE/OE to v6 and it caused huge problems
on his o/s, so he went back to v5.5. So upgrading won't work for him.

Can anyone help with possible solutions?

If I understand you correctly, 'Insert' only works with Rich
Text (HTML) mail, not plain text.
