BNF for XML Schema?

Does anyone here know of serious attempts in constructing a BNF for
XML Schema?
All I can find is this thread:
in which the answer refers to the specification being in draft.

What has happened since?

What do parser constructors use, when they cannot get a "real" BNF
from W3C - do they really, every one of them, start all over from
scratch ('scratch' being the specification)?
