Default Buying domain name?

I need a domain name that someone has evidently bought and is sitting
on as an 'investent.' Any hints on how to go about buying it without
paying a ridiculous price?

GoDaddy has a 'backorder' feature that will try to snaffle the name
when it comes up for renewal, but it looks as if this one has been
renewed, 'though not used, since 1997. Has anyone successfully
'backordered'?

That's a very long time to have a domain name and not use it! They are
obviously not using it for trading purposes. Have a read of this and see if
it is of any help: http://tinyurl.com/5jfxz

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Thanks. A very good reference. Answers many questions and has good
suggestions. Appreciate it.
