When I looked into VIEW-->Source code, the source code shows the result of a
javascript code execution, not the javascript code itself as it is supposed
to be.

"Check for new versions of stored pages" in Internet options is set to
"Every visit to the page".
Temporary internet files have been deleted.

Did I accidentally changed something in my browser settings?

Sorry, I do not understand what you mean by "get *.js file", Jan.
I don't need to get it becase it is already in my PC.
To be more precise, it is an HTML fule containig JavaScript code and I can
view it if I open it in Notepad.

I mean that when I open it in IE6 and then go to VIEW-->Source, I see the
result of execution of the JS code, whereas I am supposed to see the code
itself, don't I ?

I thought you have something like this:
<script language="JavaScript1.1" SRC="/includes/index/head.js"></script>

OK.

So you have a html-file with something like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
document.write("<br>");
//-->
</script>

.... then you see only

<br>

???

I see:

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
document.write("<br>");
//-->
</script>

Or is your code more sophisticated?

1. "So you have a html-file with something like this:
<script type="text/javascript"> document.write("<br>");</script>
.... then you see only <br>"

Exactly.

2. "Or is your code more sophisticated?"

It is, but code complexity should not be relevant as long as it does not
produce errors.
For the purity of argument, I run <script type="text/javascript">
document.write("<br>");</script>
and saw only <br>
So, what are your ideas?

That's my point.
The problem is not with the code, but with the browser.
Either I accidentallt chenged some setting, or, perhaps got a virus - I
expected someone had similar porblem and would suggest a fix

Learn to quote properly, too. At the *end* of that to which you're
replying.

Hywel,
If you have nothing to say to the point, you better indulge yourself into
playng a Victorian teacher elsewhere.
You are clogging the group by meaningless postings.

Top-posting is enforced in many forums due to the nature of discussion. In
order to facilitate the understanding of the flow of ideas in, say, HTML,
the normal technique is to post in conversational flow and quote only
relevant text.

Hywel's post was not meaningless, it was a very important tip for you to
get the most out of your discussion here. Please learn to see it that way.
