Here is a link to a good book to learn Java
http://www.murach.com/books/jav5/index.htm
I've got maybe 20 books on Java - this is a good beginner's book
another decent book is "Head First Java"
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/hfjava/

Pick one and work through it.
