Verification of signed jars in J2SE

Does anyone know if the verification of a jar's signature(s) is
guaranteed when a class is loaded from that jar by
java.lang.URLClassLoader? Does it depend on whether a security manager
is installed during program execution? I am assuming a J2SE environment
Version 1.3 or higher.
