video capture using JMS

I am trying to capture video in order to use it in developing
algorithms like movement detection and pattern recognition. Therefore
I need to analyze specific information about specific frames.
I want to know, before I start digging into the sample code form Sun,
whether this is possible, or I should search for another framework.
