Hi everybody, My concern is about exams. I'm majoring in comp sci, i'm a year
of my graduate and this year i'd like to take a certification with my diploma.
I want you to tell me what to do about exams, because a new generation of
exams is about to begin and I wanna know if it's better wait or it doesn't
matter.
I'm working with asp.net 2.0 and vb.net 2.0 but i've already worked with
..net 1.1 but only for a short time.
I'm reading the self-placed tranning kit from microsoft and professional
asp.net 2.0 from Wrox. What do you guys think about these books?
thanks for opnions.

By the way, I'm from Brazil, I work for www.imusica.com.br. This is the only
one brazillian web site that sells music on internet. We franchise e-stores
like msn music brasil, yahoo music ...

sorry but my english is not soo good.

Hello Felipe,

I can only strongly recommend that you pursue the certification effort. You
will likely hear from people in this group who downplay the importance of
certification. My opinion (and that's all anyone can give you) is that the
certification process by itself will not make you an expert. It will,
however, present you with a variety of topic areas you must learn in order
to become certified, many of which you likely would not learn if you just
worked from project to project and never went through the certification
process. You will be better off for having stuck with it long enough to
actually earn the certification. Good luck. Oh, and just ignore those who
say that the certification process is a waste of time. It's not a waste of
time. It is just another way to get information and knowledge into your
head.

Now, to answer your specific question, do whatever it takes to learn the
topic areas presented by the certification exams. Write actual code, read
books, articles (online, print, etc), use the training kits. What is
important to do early on in your certification effort is to identify the
specific topic areas covered by the exams. You can discover those topic
areas from the practice exams (e.g., Transcender exams, or those that come
with the training kits).

Good Luck!

Oh, and you cannot pass a real test by "memorizing the practice exams" as
some people say. Use the practice exams to (1) identify the topic areas you
need to learn, and (2) measure your "book knowledge" of that topic area so
you can know where to invest your time.

-HTH

It's better to wait. Some of the 2.0 exams are almost out of beta, so
you won't have to wait long.
