I see message to download/install critical updates...I've tried a few
times/various times of the day etc....but nothing happens when I try to d/l
them. Just "now downloading and installing updates"...but nothing is
happening.
How long should this take......15 mins and nothing, 20 mins...nothing

Is "Allow web sites to install software" checked?

If it's checked, click on "Allowed Sites" ... what sites are listed?

Thanks!!

It wasn't checked...I checked it and added mozilla.com to Allowed Sites.

Is that the right site?? Do I need to add others to d/l and install FF
updates??

Add update.mozilla.org and addons.mozilla.org.

I don't trust the update routines.

To install a new version, I download the installer, back up my
"plugins" directory, uninstall the previous version, clean out the
program directory, install the latest version, and restore the
"plugins" directory.

Works like a charm, and takes less than five minutes.

I've been having the same problem Lisa reported in trying to upgrade from
1.0 --
it gets to the point where it claims to be downloading and just hangs.

I did what you advised, added the sites you mention and also
download.mozilla.org (which is where Mozilla told me it found the upgrade),
with gleefully trembling mouse-finger clicked on "Install Now" ..... and
still nada. Any further ideas, other than the paranoid brute force method
suggested by Tom Betz?

And besides, shouldn't Mozilla give a shout out when you ask it to download
from a disallowed site? seems very passive-agressive.
