FF Software Updates

Under Tools> Options> Advanced> Software Update are boxes which allow FF to
*periodically* check for updates to FF and Extensions. How can I tell what
is *periodically*? Every so many hours? X times a day/week?
My pc is automatically connecting to the dialup at odd times during the day
and I'm trying to trouble shoot this and want to know if this option is
doing it?
Thanks

It's probably not Firefox that is doing this. I think the update
mechanism code goes something like this: When the browser starts (from
cold, not a new window) check if it is more than 24 hours since the last
update check. If yes, then check; otherwise continue.

If you leave Firefox open and use Livemarks (RSS feeds) then they
refresh every 1 hour.

Good luck with finding the rogue, I remember the pain of doing it myself.

==== just uncheck those options, and check for updates your self once
and a while... btw-- if you have the ext. "User Agent Switcher" don't
update it, without first uninstalling the old version ========

I'm not sure what's doing it. Usually open when it happens is OE6 and FF
(latest). I have the OE6 check for new mail unchecked and am searching all
possibilities.
In about:config there are some values for:
update interval = 3600000
extension update interval = 604800000
Are these meaningful to my OQ?
Thanks

If you want to disable the automatic connection, you could go to control
panel\inernet options\connections and tell it to never dial a
connection. This doesn't mean you can't dial out, but simply that it
won't dial out automatically.

Actualy even though I have set it to dial the connection when needed,
it only seems to work with MIE and OE. I have to dial manualy to get on
with FF. It dosen't even use the same popup as those used by the MS
programs. I don't think Firefox will check for updates unless it's in
use.
