FF and IE, OE, Acrobat printing problems...

A few weeks back, I installed firefox on my machine at home (XP) and it
worked great. I then installed it on my business 'puter (also XP) and made
FF the default browser. The first thing I noticed is that QuickBooks Pro
wouldn't load some of its navigator windows. I learned it needed IE (active
X, I guess). So I uninstalled FF and made IE the default browser. Now,
QuickBooks still doesn't load those windows, and I can't print out emails in
OE (although I can print attachments) and today I found out that I can't
convert files from .DOC to .PDF format (Acrobat 5). It gets as far as the
'printing' stage and just hangs. I tried uninstalling and re-installing IE
etc and even reinstalled QuickBooks but still have those problems. Another
thing I noticed after re-installing IE (the latest update) that when you
access the "about IE" option under Help....it no longer gives the version
number etc.
Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks.
