14 downloads are of viruses or "malware", which the creators have
encouraged people to open.

So is there any way to tell if a software download is safe to use?

e..g how can you tell whether this software is safe to use

It could easily be biding its time before stealing your credit card
details or whatever.

If you’re running Windows, then it’s not safe.
