CSS ruled "ineffective" in Finnish court
 
Bypassing CSS protection on DVDs ruled legal, because CSS doesn't work:

So, if someone cracks any protection, then its legal as the protection
will no longer work.

I guess it is illegal to *try* and crack the protection.
