Is it just a modem or is it a modem/router? Anyway, a call to tech
support with the DSL provider would be a good idea.

Do you mean a PPPoE DSL connection - a username and password to
CONNECT to the Internet, or a username and password to log into the
administrative section of your DSL Modem's interface?

Presumably the instructions that came with the device. Try the maker's
web site if you've lost the instructions. (I have seen a DSL modem/router
with the default login details printed on the back of the case, but that's
not usual - or sensible, although of course the defaults should be changed
the first time the thing is used).

I have DSL now. And I can connect the modem to any PC and it works. No
password required.

But your DSL "router" uses one. Take a look at the setup you used when
you first got it.

Non necessarily.

Only if it's PPPoE, otherwise it's DHCP.

The manual will provide the default username and password and you can
press the reset button to revert to default settings.

I dont have a router where I am living at the moment. I gave my router
up to my son. I'm using an old version of Zone Alarm for my incoming and
outgoing traffic.
