wireless configure

ok so i have many systems on my network all have the correct wpa key and work fine
the laptop im am trying to configure wont let me add the wpa key says i need

the network password needs to be 40 bits or 104bits depending on your nework configuration etc

how can i get round this

there is no drop down to chose wpa or wep !

Please check the wifi channel setting on laptop .
