Netgear WG511 issues

I am trying to get this WG511 card to see my AP at home.
It installs and appears to be setup correctly but will not connect to the
AP.
I have removed the encryption (back to basics) and still no joy.
If I do an "ipconfig/all" I get the message "media disconnected". It does
however see the correct card and a physical address.
I have disconnected the old inbuilt Intel mini pci card in the bios.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Is the computer a laptop? Did you check with the laptop mftr. to make
sure the Netgear is compatible? For instance, Thinkpads will not
support every wireless adapter available.

If your laptop does support the Netgear, get the most current drivers
for it from Netgear's website.

Turn off any Virus checker or firewalls and see what happens.
