registry problems
I have a toshiba satellite A70 with windows XP profesional at home. I also
have one at the office connected to a network. I copied the registry of that computer (office) on a DVD, then I opened that registry at my computer at home. Now my home computer is acting very strange. How can I recuperate my original registry at my home computer? |

Re: registry problems
You may be able to do a system restore from before you messed it up. There
are other more difficult measures that you can check out in the Knowledgebase. Re: registry problems
I´ll be honest. I was getting fed up with the casino pop ups, the Win anti
Virus pop ups, and even a porn pop up(i have a cable modem connection, not a dial up). I ran spybot search and destroy and every time it came up with a Magic Control.Agent at a registry location. It never could clear it up. So I did this desperate measure! "John Barnes" wrote: > You may be able to do a system restore from before you messed it up. Re: registry problems
I can certainly relate, i spent over a week getting one of those situations
fixed on my wifes machine. If you don't have a recovery file from before the program took over, sometimes a fresh start is the best approach. Re: registry problems
Hello ,
Your best bet is going to be to attempt to follow this article to copy back the registry files: 307545 How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307545 System Restore would be doubtful. Some of the restore points information is stored in the registry, so the restore points that are presented are the restore points that would be available on the Office machine, not the Restore points that are on the home machine. Plus which registry files did you replace? All of them or just one or two? As John says, in situations such as this, a clean install is the only
resort, even Microsoft recommends it as the best way to remove malware from the system. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "registryman" <registryman@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:940C60EA-9BC4-49C6-BEAA-707E797ECDB4@microsoft.com... > I´ll be honest. Re: registry problems
The article that Darryl recommends is the one I was referring to in my
original post about the knowledge base. I have used it and it worked for my purpose. It sure is a lot easier to do if you are dual booting and can work from the other system. Hope you have good luck. Incidentally I had the following error I need to fix at the time Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate "registryman" <registryman@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5583DBBB-CD2B-45D9-890F-0CEAEF14AA26@microsoft.com... > I´ll be honest.
