fan starting and stopping ..Normal?
My Compaq/HP Presario R4012 is starting a "new" sound, I think.
First off, a week or so ago, my notebook shutdown almost instantly while I
was working. I smelled what I thought was an electrical odor. It started
back up with no trouble after a while. I let it "cool down"...It has been
working for a week or more with no signs of trouble.
Tonight, I am noticing that the fan seems to be starting up and then
shutting down while I am working. Is this the sign of a failing cooling
fan? I suppose it is. Could this be something "normal" that has been going
on and I am just hyper sensitive due to the shut-down a week ago?
Can a Best Buy or other outlet fix this sort of thing ASAP...or would I
normally have to wait a week or more? I guess I am asking if this is the
sort of a problem that they would have a part on hand for.. thanks for any
help. RichG TX/IL
Re: fan starting and stopping ..Normal?
Usually when taking your computer to a retial outlet such as Best Buy, there
is a standard period of time that it takes to service your system. Most
problems are not a fix while you wait thing. I suggest if you need your
laptop back faster, check your local yellow pages for a local computer store
that repairs laptops. It will probably be faster and your service will be
more personalized to what you need. Those type stores usually have the parts
on hand as well and, if you are so inclined, they can help you fix it
