does Sym Live Update send outbound?
 

Have been noticing the activity with NAV NFW during live updates.. it
rattles the 10k SCSI drive pretty good and `outbound' traffic is
observed during that time. What kind of info is going out?

How can one inspect or view this traffic?

It has to GO OUT to see if there are new updates and then out another
location to get them.

If you've already defragged the drive, but there is lots of outbound
activity beyond just submitting your subscription info (to verify you
can get updates) then have you subscribed to their deepsight service
(http://analyzer.symantec.com/downloadnis.asp)? That uploads your
firewall logs to then e-mail them back as a summary or lets you view
them remotely and online along with providing them with some info
regarding intrusions and where.
