VFAT Device Initialization Failed Error after HP 7310 xi printer installation
 

After completing the installation of an HP 7310xi all-in-one printer
on an HP Pavilion running Win98 SE, the following occurs:

After the Windows banner appears at startup, a bluescreen appears with
the message "VFAT Device Initialization Failed system halted"

Went to MS Site and download all the instructions given here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=139063

Did everytthing they suggested for Win98, but the problem remains.

Any ideas?

Start the problem computer in "Command Prompt", type "edit c:\winboot.ini"
and press "Enter". Type in the following text, then press "Alt-F", then "S". Then
reboot. If Windows starts normally, rename the file to "c:\msdos.sys", then see
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=129998.
