W32.Swen.A@mm SPAM
For about a month...maybe more...I have been getting hundreds and hundreds
of the W.32.Swen.A@mm spam messages that are iimitating Microsoft......(a fix patch). I use SBC Yahoo mail and mail passes thru Yahoo to my Outlook Express 6.0. I did have Spam Guard turned on so I would get all messages sent to OE but these spam messages take a long time to download and then Norton removes the virus. I can block most spam (but not these W.32.Swen.A@mm) as I use iHate Spam. These messages fill my yahoo mailbox of 25 MB in less than 2 days. Now I have Yahoo Spam Guard turned off so I won't get all these messages. But alot of messages never get to me at OE so I have to go to Yahoo Mail to see them. I have set up a few filters in Yahoo but there is NO WAY to set up enough filters to filter all these messages out. They come in with all sorts of Headers and Subject lines. Can anyone be of assistance????? Thanks!!!!! HERE ARE SOME OF THE HEADERS AND SUBJUCT LINES I RECEIVED JUST TODAY. Install,"Mailwasher", http://www.mailwasher.net/download.php Tools/Options/Filters/Add and make a filter.Click the," mark for deletion boxes.Choose fewer rules. In the Rules box change to The To Field.Change to the next box across and change to,"Does Not Contain" and then in the far right box put your email address. This will delete them from your pop box as most of these virus spam are not personal as you may think and they won't have your return address. You can add anyone who you want to get through to your,"Friends" list or blacklist others. No, but changing your address means it will still go to ISP's server, as the domain name will route it that way, and then your ISP's server decides if it is a valid address or not. So you are just creating yet more email addresses for the virus to attack, thereby worsening the problem. Use Mailwasher and just delete them like everyone else. -- slumpy no more no less just slumpy |
Re: W32.Swen.A@mm SPAM
I take it that Mailwasher will delete these at the Yahoo server. RIGHT???

[schnippen] These messages were emailed to your machine by machines that have been hijacked by the virus. Anyone you know who has your email address in their address book could have sent them. In addition, since you posted this message with what appears to be a valid email address, and the virus harvests email addresses from newsgroup postings, you have opened the floodgates to another batch of spam and virii. Since you are still receiving this large a volume of worm messages so long after its original appearance, I would bet that one or more of your regular correspondents is infected with the virus and doesn't know it. It might be a Good Idea for you to, first, "munge" your email address (go to members.aol.com/emailfaq/mungfaq.html to find out why you should do that and how to). Since you already use an antivirus, I assume you are familiar with the reasons why one uses such an application, as well as a firewall, as part of one's basic security provisions; just in case, though, you might go to http://www.geocities.com/yosponge/ for more information along thoe lines. Armed with that knowledge, it is then time to read up on the Swen virus and how it spreads. You can start your research by going to http://www.google.com, clicking the "Groups" tab at the top, then "Advanced Group Search," and entering any appropriate keyword match and the name of this group in the other obvious places. You will get several hundred hits to your search, given that this subject has been discussed to death in this newsgroup and many others. (That's a gentle hint that you might read newsgroups before posting messages in them.) You might then forward this knowledge to your correspondents, since you apparently have at least one who is still unaware of basic Internet security precautions and still believes that Microsoft sends out security patches in email. -- Gary G.
