XP messing up windows size/position and taskbar icons
I rebuilt my laptop last week with Win XP Pro and SP1 integrated. Previously
I was running XP Pro with SP1 added afterwards. I have all patches applied.
Windows is now, at its own whim, rearranging the sequence of icons for open
tasks on my taskbar and at the same time resizing open windows. I
deliberately oversize some windows and slide the edges off the screen to get
rubbish out of my view. But windows is resizing and repositioning them to
fit within the screen area. I have only noticed this behaviour since the
I do not have "group icons" enabled and I have looked at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;281628. I guess
maybe I could fix the taskbar bit by adding the recommended key with a value
of "0" but as that is the default anyway, and the machine is not operating
like that I don't see that it would do much good. I'm not sure this would
have any impact on the windows resizing.
This behaviour doesn't happen often, perhaps once or twice each day, and the
laptop is on from 07:30 till midnight each day. It still ticks me off as I
normally have about 6-8 open tasks running at any one time - TV Schedule,
Outlook, Outlook Express, 3 IE Browsers windows as standard for trading
stocks, plus other things throughout the day.
I make a point of opening my standard apps in a specific sequence so that I
know where to find the taskbar icons. I don't want my windows resized and I
don't want my taskbar icons moving about. How do I fix this? Why doesn't
Windows allow manual repositioning of taskbar icons with drag-n-drop?
