Transferring files, OLD to NEW computer

Have new computer running XP with multiple USB 2.0 ports. Wish to transfer
some files from:

-Compaq laptop, W-98, with USB 1.0 port, serial and parallel
-Desktop, W-98, with only serial and parallel ports

Does anyone know of a website that would have instructions? Probably a
little to much to explain here.

Get a USB Flash Memory Drive. Install The software on the 98 laptop.
Copy files and insert memory in XP and transfer files. Simple
